About Daniel

Daniel V. Masciari is an award-winning filmmaker who unearths magic in seemingly mundane moments of the human experience.

Background

The son of an Italian immigrant, Masciari grew up outside of Boston in a neighborhood of new arrivals to America from all over the world—a community that nurtured his imagination and fueled his sense of humor.

Early years
Fascinated by film’s power to tell stories earnestly and intimately, he began shooting and directing his friends at age eleven on a Canon ZR-100 camera. By twenty-two, Variety named him one of 110 students “who represent the future of film, media and entertainment.” At twenty-four, he edited his first feature film, profiled in Filmmaker Magazine.

Critical acclaim
Masciari’s love of directing and editing runs through all his work, including his debut feature, Stationed at Home. When it premiered at the Glasgow Film Festival in March 2025, critics hailed it as “an alternative Christmas classic,” echoing the sentiment that it “could well go down in the history of independent cinema.”

About the film
A hypnotically charming black-and-white film set over one serendipitous night, Stationed at Home is a tragicomedy filled with funny, moving characters and a forgotten city that feels both otherworldly and deeply familiar. With offbeat comedy and human depth, Masciari’s debut is a personal, one-of-a-kind celebration of creative freedom that Film Focus called “the raw magic of independent cinema.”
